Robert Howe QC is instructed for the claimant in a claim for infringement of copyright against JK Rowling and her publishers, Bloomsbury. The claim is that JK Rowling infringed copyright in an earlier work, called "Willy the Wizard", when she wrote "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". Both books include (among other things) the idea of a wizard contest. In July, the Defendants applied to summarily dismiss the application. Mr Justice Kitchin has now refused that application, granting conditional leave to proceed.
